“Never be afraid of taking on big challenges as they offer the best rewards.” -Spencer Christensen

In our assigned project work during week 7 of career fellowship at Amal Academy, it provided me an opportunity to go the #ExtraMile and drop off my resume in-person at an organization. I decided to visit Nestle Headquarters situated at Upper Mall, Lahore.

I have a knack for taking on challenges and difficult tasks because where lies a problem; lies an opportunity for growth. In current situation with reduced office hours due to Ramadan, lockdown and not allowing guests/visitors from the outside in office premisis to control spread of Covid-19; it was really difficult to visit the office as its a multinational corporation having strict policies. But I found out a connection through my personal sources who helped me book an appointment with the HR manager.

Meeting Day:

I got up early and suited up professionally. Practiced my elevator pitch repeatedly to avoid any inconvenience during the meeting. When I reached the office, I found out that my phone’s battery had died and I could not contact my connection who was going to let me in the office. As it was Friday and office timings were shorter than normal, it was great hassle for me to go back empty handed. I talked to the security guard and convinced him to connect with the person I needed to meet. After much hesitation I was able to convince him.

Meeting:

When I met my connection he told me that the recruiter and HR are in a meeting. Also they won’t be able to meet me as the recruitment drive is based on the online assessment. After completing my assessment, he may be able to arrange a meeting with them. I handed him my CV and cover letter just incase he gets a chance to present them.

Conclusion:

It didn’t go as I thought it would but I got to know about the environment of the office as well as got in touch with couple of trainees who cleared the test last year. Got valueable tips for the assessment and made good connections as well. There’s always a bright side even if things don’t go as planned.
